#2 - No Country for Old Men (2007)

I had seen this one in a couple of Youtube videos, mainly Nostalgia Critic (check out his stuff, it's pretty neat). It won like four academy awards as far as I know. Fucking four. So how good was it?

Derp.

Though I found it a little slow, pretty darn good. I will admit, the single deciding factor was Javier Bardem as Anton, aka the evil bad guy, aka "how am I supposed to take him seriously with that hairstyle?". Period. Everything involving this guy (directly or indirectly) was really great stuff. Everything else... just not that interesting.

Again, Anton completely steals the show. Get involved with him and you're fucked. Get in his way and you're fucked. Everything about Bardem's performance is fantastic (well deserved academy award there). He takes the whole "unstoppable evil" archetype to a new level. Always intimidating and menacing but NEVER over the top.

Not amused.

But again, everything else just wasn't as memorable. "Oh look, it's Tommy Lee Jones again. Did the bad guy catch up to that other guy again?". Funny, pretty much every subplot Tommy Lee Jones was involved in was boring. The rest is golden, like the cat-and-mouse aspect of the movie. But, again, because it involved Anton.

So, in conclusion, it is a pretty enjoyable movie. The good stuff more than makes up for the boring stuff.
